A story of survival on many levels and it begins with World War II,

then the arrival to a new country, the adjustment to the American lifestyle.

 

There are many hero's we know little about made up of brigades of citizens fighting against the oppression of the Nazi forces.  This book is the story of one of these citizens.

 

Born Margherita Carla Bertola, my given name as a member of the Girabaldi Brigade in Torino Italy was Marisa.  I was a steffeta (courier) pickingup and delivering documents throughout the city.  I was constantly in danger, and at only sixteen years old felt invinsible.

 

I am now 91 years young and privileged to be able to share my story

with the world.  It was a long hard journey, but with many rewards.
